En-médecine-légale, qui va s'intéresser à la mise en commun d'éléments ante-mortem et post-mortem, et qui est la seule permettant d'obtenir une identification absolue et l'identification reconstructive, utilisant des techniques comme la reconstruction faciale, et qui permet de faire une proposition d'identité de la victime quand les techniques comparatives ne sont pas accessibles. Sous le terme de reconstruction, plusieurs techniques sont sous-entendues: la superposition faciale, se basant sur la superposition de la photographie d'une personne disparue avec la photographie du crâne à identifier; la restauration faciale, qui consiste à redéfinir un visage à partir d'un crâne où des tissus mous persistent; et la reconstruction faciale, qui recrée un visage à partir d'un crâne dit sec. Ces techniques connaissent actuellement un grand essor et donnent des résultats suffisamment satisfaisants pour apparaître dans des affaires judiciaires
