Lépidoptères protégés des zones humides de Savoie : 18ème année de suivi (2016)

Abstract : Facing the degradation of natural environments, the CREN Rhône-Alpes initiated in 1998 a monitoring program of wetlands protected species of butterflies. The CEN Savoie has been executing it since 1999 on the wetlands of its department. 5 species are concerned. 2016 is the 18th year of the monitoring. The main method is a line transect. The main site is the Chautagne marsh. Various management actions are undertaken on the study areas of which efficiency can be highlighted by the monitoring results. Agri-environment measures are the main tool by settling deferred mowing and temporary set-aside areas as refuge for biodiversity. They represent the precious partnership between environment managers and farmers. Early species’ populations (Marsh fritillary and False ringlet) thrive this year whereas the two Maculinea which are later and more threatened species are very low. The Dusky large blue is especially critically endangered in Savoie. Large copper is stable. Declining populations can be linked to the chaotic meteorology of the recent years (spring rain and floods, summer droughts) and ongoing damages on natural habitats (boar damages, drainage, inappropriate land use, etc.). Conservation management efforts are still necessary to sustain the populations of these endangered species in a territory where natural ecosystems can no longer assure autonomous functioning.
