Influence of pressure on the gas-liquid interfacial area and the gas-side mass transfer coefficient of a laboratory column equipped with cross-flow sieve trays

Abstract : The method of gas-liquid absorption with chemical reaction was applied to determine the influence of pressure on the interfacial area A and gas-side mass transfer coefficient in a laboratory column equipped with cross-flow sieve trays. The pressure increase was found to result in a decrease in both parameters. Values of A were compared for two different gas-liquid systems and the observed difference was found to come only from the value chosen for the kinetic constant; this proves that it is mandatory to use coherent and homogeneous data obtained from the same system.
