Not All Fans Leave a Trace: The Case of a Digital Comic Serial Inspired by Television Series

Julien Falgas

Résumé

Following Henry Jenkins' seminal work and the desire to rehabilitate the figure of the fan, fan studies tended to promote the study of the traces produced by the contributory and creative practices of hardcore fans. The results of an ethno-methodological study of a digital comic book series suggest that many fans do not engage in such practices. Such fans can't be considered as passive or alienated either. This is why we propose to open up fan studies to the analysis and understanding of the dynamics of audience circulation between informational, communicational and contributory practices.
