Les sergents, des acteurs clés de la justice nancéienne (seconde moitié du XVIe siècle-premier tiers du XVIIe)

Abstract : This article offers the question of justice sergeant, this low-officer who intervene daily in the judicial life of instances they serve. Nevertheless their omnipresence, and although they are often cited by historians, they are little known and little studied because the sources say few words about them. The archives of the Duchy of Lorraine and more particularly those of the Nancy alderman of the 16th-early 17th century, allow to partially circumvent these difficulties. So, using institutional documents, judiciary and accountants, it is possible to come back to the status, prerogatives but also the role played with the populations by the sergeants of justice
