From Patrice Chéreau’s production of Phèdre by Jean Racine to Ivo van Hove’s creation of Tartuffe ou L'Hypocrite by Molière: « desires rooted to the body »
De la mise en scène de Patrice Chéreau de Phèdre de Jean Racine au spectacle d’Ivo Van Hove de Tartuffe ou l’Hypocrite<:i> de Molière : « le désir chevillé au corps »
Abstract
Both Patrice Chéreau’s prodution of Phèdre by Jean Racine and Ivo van Hove’s creation of Tartuffe ou L'Hypocrite by Molière link sexual desire to body language. Hippolytus and Aricie, as played by Eric Ruf and Marina Hands, as well as Tartuffe and Elmire, embodied by Christophe Montenez and Marina Hands, all share in sensual segments in which their bodies participate in the action, going so ar as to contradict Racine and Molière's texts.
