Kinetics of the L12 ↔ D019 transition for Fe3Ga-type alloy determined by in situ electrical resistivity

Abstract

Resistivity studies of kinetics of the first order transition between two closed packed phases (ferromagnetic L12 (sp.gr. Pm3m) ↔ paramagnetic D019 (sp.gr. P63/mmc)) in Fe3Ga-type alloy at heating, cooling and isothermal annealing were carried out for the first time. Due to its low price and excellent accuracy, we were able to follow during several days slow kinetic (micro-)structural transformations. The interval of coexistence of these phases in Fe-27Ga alloy is determined to be 595–606 ◦C, and kinetics of the L12 ↔ D019 transitions are analyzed.
