Caractéristiques chimiques et anatomiques de la ligne de soudure du bois

Abstract : This work presents a series of studies on various aspects of the welding technology of wood. The objectives of this thesis are as follows. To determine the chemical composition and the behavior of the welded joint into water. To determine possible relationships between the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the welded material. To study methods capable of improving the mechanical strength and the water resistance of the welded joints. To determine the influence of welding parameters in the anatomy, chemical composition and mechanical properties of the welded joints. The first chapter presents an introduction. The second chapter shows the state of the art in the field of wood and friction welding. The third chapter describes the results and is divided in two parts. The first one is related to the comprehension of the chemical and anatomical aspects and its relation with the mechanical properties of the welded joint and the second part covers the improvements in the mechanical resistance and in the water resistance of the welded joints. In the first group of results three studies are included; the first one presents the chemical composition and solubility in water of the welded beech and spruce material at progressive welding time. In this study the components of the welded material and the degradation products of welded wood soluble in water are determined and quantified. The second work shows a topo-chemical study of cross sections of welded wood. Here, the modification of the lignin in the welding zone and the surrounding fibers is established. The third study establishes correlations between the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the welded joint. The second part of the results includes three studies; the first one describes the changes in the shear strength of the welded wood joints by wood densification before welding. In the second and third studies the use of additives in order to improve the water resistance of the welded joints is described. The second study deals with linear friction welding and the third one with rotational wood dowel friction welding. Finally, conclusions and perspectives are presented in the fourth chapter
