Caractérisations physico-chimiques des tannins de Mangrove comme inhibiteurs de corrosion

Abstract : Tannins from mangrove barks were extracted using 70% aqueous acetone and purification by chromatography afforded condensed tannins of high purity. The reversed-phase HPLC analysis of condensed tannins revealed mainly four flavanoïd monomers. Anti-oxidant capabilities were shown by mangrove tannins which were comparable to the standards. The electrochemical experiments have shown that the inhibitive efficiency of mangrove tannins on steel was largely contributed by the condensed tannins. Ali investigated tannins are cathodic inhibitors in acidic media. At low pH, the mechanism was attributed to chemisorption of tannin onto the iron surface while at higher pH, the formation of ferrictannates resulted in a low protective effect. The flavanoid monomers are potential inhibitors for steel in acidic medium. Calculations from semi-empirical quantum approach show that the most probable adsorption centre is in the vicinity of the phenolic groups. Inhibition efficiency of pre-rusted steel in NaCI solution with tannin was found to be dependent on the H3P04 concentration and pH. The ferric-tannate formation was established with FTIR, XRD, SEM analysis.
