Essai d'ethnologie de l'éducation spécialisée

Abstract : First part of the work is devoted to a critical examination of the most important sociological analysis patterns of social work in French society, and proposes to understand social work as a tool of compromise in modern social life. Second part presents an historical reflexion on the constitution of the so-called "métier d'éducateur specialisé" in France, from the end of the Second World War. Third part analyzes day-to-day construction of professional reality in the context of social work through an original material: notebooks written day-to-day by social workers in charge of young children. These note-books give access to the ordinary ways and means of construction of a professional reality in residential child care through the accounts daily made by the members of an educational staff. Their reading allows to recognize rules of interactive production of this social activity by permanent negotiation, and to identify cognitive forms of mutual agreement used by people to introduce and settle a positive order in everyday circumstances
