Development and characterization of Quebracho tannins based foams

Abstract : Since many years new biobased materials has been developed. In particular tannins foams which can be an alternative to synthetic foams. These products are about 90% biobased. They have good thermal characteristics and they are fireproofed. So they are potentially very good foams for building insulation. However the previous study was based on the standard formulation developed with Mimosa tannins (Acacia Mearnsii) by Tondi et al. In this work, Quebracho tannins (Schinopsis Balansae) were used. Indeed, in the past the production of Mimosa tannins capped at 220 000 tonnes/year and now is at 112 000 tonnes/ year while the production of Quebracho tannins is increasing and is currently at 80 000 tonnes/year.
