Thermodynamic and structural properties of CCl4 adsorbed on (0001) graphite
Abstract
Volumetric and X-ray scattering studies of CCl4 adsorbed on (0001) graphite have been performed in the first-two-monolayers range. The first-order condensation of the first monolayer results in a liquid phase for T > 195 K, which undergoes a continuous liquid-solid transition for higher coverages, as shown both by the isotherm shapes and by the modifications with temperature of the (10) and (11) Bragg reflection peaks, which are followed simultaneously near the monolayer completion. The second layer forms at T > 216.8 K. The critical temperatures for the first- and the second-layer condensation are 233 and 239 K, respectively.
