Etude de la prise en charge du patient en dialyse péritoneale par le médecin généraliste

Abstract : Peritoneal dialysis offers many advantages, such as an easy execution, the patient's given autonomy and a low cost. General Practitioners have an important role in the choice of the dialysis method, and also aftenvards during their patients' follow up. But do they have a good knowledge of this technique ? What are their thoughts about Peritoneal Dialysis ? Do they have access to useful tools and information ? We made a survey among twenty General Practitioners in the Lorraine area, who were already following patients in peritoneal dialysis. This survey shows that there are indeed parts of the management that can be improved. General Practitioners who were questioned do not have, in the pre-dialysis step, that essential role of informing and counselling. The survey also shows that General Practitioners are not called enough in the patient's regular follow up. However, they acknowledge their role and have very positive thoughts of peritoneal dialysis.
