Abstract : Background : pain is universal. For most patients, management is only for symptom. But we are living in societies, among a lot of social, cultural and religious backgrounds, so patient and physician could be different. Objective : we searched social, cultural and religious factors influencing perception, explanation and response to chronic pain by adult patients and explanation and response to chronic pain by physicians. Method. : to answer this question, we analyzed recent medical literature. Results : social, cultural and religious factors do exist forchronic pain patient and for physician. Perspective : those results challenge the physicians to manage chronic pain patients with a multidisciplinary way and an overall view. French and European studies about chronic pain could be carried out.
