Abstract : Transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder has an incidence rate which increase of 1% each year, with a stable mortality rate. Infiltrating bladder cancer leads often to metastatic disease. Early diagnosis and treatment are necessary to improve the chances of complete remission. Gold standard remains radical cystectomy but for fifty years concomitant radiochemotherapy became an option with estimated equivalent results than surgery although no prospective randomized study has compared the two modalities. The advantage of radiochemotherapy results in possibility of bladder preservation. First, we take stock of current knowledges. Then we develop the results of a retrospective study done in Alexis Vautrin center, concerning 44 patients treated by radiochemotherapy between 1997 and 2003, for infiltratecl bladder cancer. The aim of the study is to compare our results with literature in term of local control, overall survival, survival with bladder preservation, and to evaluate the impact of salvage cystectomy on the survival.
