Impact de la gestion forestière à long terme sur l’écosystème forestier : le cas des bois de salines de Lorraine

Abstract : The sustainability of exploited forests depends on the control of long-term impacts of that exploitation on several parameters, especially soil nutritive richness. Those impacts are little known ; in order to assess them, we took as a model the forests formerly reserved to the “salines de Lorraine”, intensively exploited from XIIth to XIXth century. We tried to assess the impacts of that overexploitation on soil and vegetation by comparing those forests to other ancient forests on the “plateau lorrain”. Our work was divided in two parts : (i) a precise cartographic analysis, (ii) an analysis of floristic, dendrologic and pedologic survies. We demonstrate that, if there are differences of land occupation between “salines” and control forests bound to the silvicultural history of the area, floristic, dendrometric and pedologic parameters doesn’t differ much or not at all. It can be explained both by an ancient and widespread overexploitation of French forests that hid the effect of treatment, and by the misreading of the boundaries of “salines” woods over the course of several centuries.
