Caractérisation physico-chimique des charbons actifs issus de la biomasse (bois et revêtement de sol stratifiés)

Abstract : Activated carbons are prepared from wood and floor covering by physical activation using steam after pyrolysis for temperatures 800 and 1000 degrees C. These materials are characterized by mercury porosimeter to determine pore volume and specific surface area, and thermogravimetric analysis (TG, DTA). Physical activation by steam at 40% - 60% of burn off increases pore volume. The Activated carbons have probably a meso and macroporous structure. The combustion reaction of activated carbons in the thermobalance is shrinking core. The TGA does not allow the determination of the variation in the combustion rate according increase of the surface area of charcoal. For an improved characterization of activated carbons, used methods must be associated with other techniques such as BET, SEM (scanning electron microscope), X-ray diffraction (XRD), adsorption of pollutants in liquid phase (phenols, methylene blue, the Iodine index... etc.), the IFTIR (Spectroscopy Infrared Fourier Transform), and optionally using the products of the first step of pyrolysis for the doping of activated carbon.
