Dynamique des communautés bactériennes des boues d’épuration lors de leur enrichissement en bactéries Anammox

Abstract : The anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) with nitrite is still not known although very effective process for the treatment of effluents with a high ratio N / C. The enrichment anammox bacteria using six sludges sampled from different environments was performed in the laboratory, in batch cultures, during 4 months and under controlled conditions. Two different nitrite supply strategies were applied during the enrichment; i.e., (i) low initial concentration at 25 mg NO2 --N/L and progressive increase to 150 mg NO2 --N/L, and (ii) constant high concentration at 150 mg NO2 --N/L. The aim of my internship was to study the evolution of the microbial communities during the enrichment. Both, total and anammox bacteria communities were assessed using the quantitative polymerase chain reaction (q-PCR). The results validated the enrichment of anammox bacteria in all the batch cultures at low initial nitrite concentration, where anammox bacteria became abundant within the microbial community at the end of the enrichment. A change of dominant anammox bacteria was observed in certain conditions during the enrichment.
