Étude du colmatage chimique sur la diffusion de l'eau dans le Nafion®

Abstract : Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) make it possible to convert efficiently chemical energy into electricity. For this, hydrogen is oxidized at one of the electrodes of the cell, created protons pass through the electrolyte (membrane) while electrons flow across the external circuit provide the electrical energy. Currently, Nafion is the reference membrane in PEMFC. This study concerns the effects of chemical clogging on the water diffusion in Nafion. The aim is to study the influence of (i) temperature, (ii) cations on the sorption properties of Nafion 117 membrane. To evaluate this clogging, we studied monovalent cations (H+, Na+, K+, Cs+), divalent cations (Mg2+, Ba2+, Cu2+) and one trivalent cation Al3+. Measurements of sorption curves enable us to extract the water diffusion coefficient in Nafion by following the kinetics of sorption.
