Etude des performances économiques et environnementales des exploitations bovins lait dans le Nord Ouest de l'Europe

Abstract : Faced to the environmental requirements and the prices volatility, the first goal of the dairy farms consists in conciliating the respect of environment with their competitiveness. Dairyman Project financed by an INTERREG IV B NW Europe program was implemented to study and to improve economical and environmental performances of dairy farms. A network of 128 pilot farms coming from 10 regions and 7 countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg, and Netherlands) was done. Economic and environmental data was collected from these pilot farms. A multiple factor analysis was done, based on environmental and economical indicators. It allows identifying the most efficient farms from the network, and the factors which explain these results. The efficient farms are characterized by low mineral balance, high nitrogen efficiency, and high income linked with less costs (extensive farms) or related to high labor productivity (intensive farms). These results show the possible link between environmental and economical performances.
