Réticence des praticiens à la pose du dispositif intra-utérin au cuivre, chez les femmes nullipares : enquête chez les sages-femmes et médecins libéraux en Meurthe et Moselle

Abstract : INTRODUCTION: The Copper intrauterine device (IUD) is a simple and effective contraceptive device freeing women from treatment compliance problems. The using rate of IUD for the nulliparous women remains low despite recommendations published by the Haute Autorité de Santé (HAS). This study aimed at putting forward the reluctances of professionals regarding the IUD, and at understanding how initial course and continuous training could affect their actual practice. METHODOLOGY: Through an observational, descriptive and transversal study, we interrogated liberal practitioner, midwives and gynecologists who exercised the IUD insertion among nulliparous patients in France. We sent out 102 surveys and 44 were usable. Results: A high rate of professionals were in favor of the insertion of the IUD among nulliparous, and 91% of the interrogated sample already practiced it. This contraceptive device would however be a second choice solution considering the difficulty of insertion (pain, fainting attacks, bleedings). 54% of the professionals interrogated underlined it and Midwives expressed their will to retrieve information and enter training regarding this in addition to the training program in gynecology they already receive.
