La vidéosurveillance à l'Esplanade «Louvain-la-Neuve»: représentations des usagers

Abstract : This contribution proposes to measure the knowledge and subjective perceptions of this discreet device that is «video surveillance». The aims of this research were to account for the relationship between representations of users and video surveillance, to describe and compare these performances with safe ways and the real shopping center objectives. The choice of a non-probability sample of volunteers among the population of users has allowed a survey two hundred people, supplemented by an interview with the Facility Manager of the said centre and direct observation. A content analysis (qualitative data) and descriptive analyses (quantitative data (numbers, percentages)) have been made and then combined. It follows from the examination of representations that users have a very diverse collection of video surveillance. Although under certain conditions in line with rea- lity, these representations are also at odds and sometimes tend to move away from the reality of security objectives displayed by the managers of the Shopping center.
