Enhancing Understanding of Electrical Systems in Simulink Through Game-Based Learning
Abstract
One effective method to increase learners' motivation is to tap into the nostalgic memories associated with childhood games. Childhood games often evoke positive and energizing experiences while also reinforcing various skills. This article proposes the utilization of a familiar classroom game from childhood as a means to improve the retention of educational materials or even assess students' learning progress. By incorporating a touch of innovation and creativity, this well-known game can be adapted to different scientific topics. As an illustrative example, the proposed approach is implemented within the context of renewable engineering education, aiming to deepen students' understanding of modeling a DC-DC converter in MATLAB/Simulink. Multiple Simulink models are presented, each featuring a specific change that students must identify. These examples are designed at various levels, catering to different learning abilities and providing a progressive learning experience.
