Association Between Baseline Hemodynamic Indices, Cardiotoxicity Risk and Survival in Women with Breast Cancer

Abstract

In a cohort of 274 women breast cancer women who were monitored by equilibrium radionuclide angiography for potentially cardiotoxic drugs (anthracyclines or trastuzumab) and who had no history of cardiac disease and a normal left ventricular ejection fraction before treatment, baseline indexes based on heart-rate/blood pressure ratios unmask hemodynamic profiles strongly associated with an increased risk of cardiotoxicity and subsequently decreased survival. Although further validations in other cohorts are needed, these findings highlight the need for a more comprehensive assessment of the cardiac- and vascular-related risk in breast cancer women monitored by equilibrium radionuclide angiography.
