Fonctionnalisation des nanotubes de carbone : de la chimie à la caractérisation

Abstract : This thesis presents a new functionalisation method for carbon nanotubes : an addition reaction by aryl free radicals. We have used several complementary techniques to characterise the nanotubes: solubility tests, UV-Vis-nIR absorption spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The results show that the nanotubes are covalently functionalized. We also discuss the effect of microwave irradiation on the functionalisation of carbon nanotubes compared to the classic thermal method : the reaction time is reduced from several tens of hours to 5 minutes. In addition, we find that the microwaves have a double effect on the carbon nanotubes during the reaction: in a first step, they activate the functionalisation reaction and then in a later phase, they lead to a continuous de-functionalisation.
