Gènes de la réponse au stress oxydant de Streptococcus thermophilus : implication de la famille multigénique polymorphe codant des régulateurs transcriptionnels Rgg-like

Abstract : The oxidative stress response of the bacterium Streptococcus thermophilus was characterised by genetic and physiologic analysis of mutants altered in their tolerance to a superoxide-generating compound. Two oxidative stress-sensitive mutants have altered cellular morphologies and were disrupted in genes involved in peptidoglycan biosynthesis. Analysis of 2 oxidative stress-resistant mutants allows involvement of guanine nucleotide pool and glutamate concentration in oxidative stress response. Other five oxidative stress-resistant mutants were disrupted in gene of unknown function and an oxidative stress-resistant phenotype can be linked to the disruption of these genes. Family of rgg genes, encoding putative transcriptional regulators, was involved in oxidative stress response of S. thermophilus. The rggC locus displays a frameshifting mutation. This gene could undergo phase variation and/or a frameshifting programmed mechanism.
