Contribution à la réalisation d'un appareil de mesure en continu et in-situ du taux de Matières En Suspension dans les systèmes d'eau et d'assainissement

Abstract : The control of the pollution, notably in water and sewerage systems, requires the measure of specific parameters. The Suspended Solids (SS) concentration is one of these parameters. Now the existing devices measuring the SS concentration in site and in continuous don't satisfying the main metrological requirements, and particularly reliability. This thesis objective is to propose a new method ofreliable measurement. The study is driven in three times. The first one consists in listing the available data on SS and to study the current methods of there concentration measurement. This stage is concluded by elaborating the specifications of an 'ideal ' SS-meter. Secondly, one analyses a set of existing methods of every kind fitting totally or partially the previous specifications. Advantages and disadvantages analysis of each of these methods allow to elaborate a complete solution designing on a new ultrasonic grain sizer baptised GREDQRU (in English : Grain sizer by Ultrasonic Quasi-Rigid BackScattering). In a third time, one describes and studies the feasibility (with wires) of the grain sizer GREDQRU. The GREDQRU principle is based on the analysis of ultrasonic echoes backscattered by targets (spherical grains or wires) according to the Resonant Scattering Theory RST. In particular, we take out of each echo the specular and the Scholte-Stoneley waves to form what we cali the quasi-rigid echo. This echo has the essential properties for one SS-meter to contain the 'size' information and to be relatively insensible to the grain chemical composition (or grain acoustical properties). The grain size is obtained by comparing every quasi-rigid echo spectrum to a referencefunction : the quasi-rigid form function . The various factors able to alter measurements (non-linearity, attenuation, transducer's directivity) are also studied. The thesis is ended by the electronic specifications of the SS-meter components.
