Spéciation de l'aluminium dans les sols forestiers acides et les eaux de surface soumis aux dépôts atmosphériques acides : significations pédogénétiques et implications toxicologiques

Abstract : Al chemistry was studuied in two acidic watersheds in the Vosges mountains (N-E France) through both soil solution anu spring water monitoring. In a podzol area, Al was mobilized in eluvial horizons under the predominant intluence of organic acidity, then leached in depth mostly under organic and F-bound Al. The Al-F species should be regarded as the shift in Al speciation due to atmospheric F input. Al was transferred from the soil to spring water mostly as Al[exponent 3+] , that involved a progressive redissolution of the top of the Bs horizon under the intluence of both soil solutions acidity and the occurrence of mobile anions derived input of mobile anions derived from atmospheric deposition. In an acid brown soil area, Al mobilization was regulated hy nitrate and occurred mainly as Al[exponent 3+]. Only traces of monomeric Al reached spring water. In the podzol eluvial horizons, soil solutions were undersaturated with respect to all relevant mineral phases and supported the hypothesis of the control of Al solubility through Al/H+ exchange. Conversely, Al solubility appeared to be controlled by an alunite-like mineral in the acid brown soil, by alunite in surface water or both watersheds. This emphasizes the influence of acid deposition on Al chemistry and soil and surface waler quality in this country.
