Etude des variations moléculaires chez l'épicéa commun (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) à l'aide de marqueurs RAPD

Abstract : RAPD markers have been used to investigate molecular variations in Norway spruce at three different levels : the total natural distribution area, the French natural area and the Vosges massif. At the total natural area level, we have obtained a clear differentiation between the baltico-nordic provenances (baltico-nordic domain) and the central Europe provenances (hercyno-carpathian and alpin domains). Such a differentiation is also revealed using ,quantitative traits sucb as height, girth, wood quality, bud bursi... Within these two mains groups geograpnical gradients have been detected : a strong latitudinal gradient within the baltico-nordic group and a moderate longitudinal gradient in central Europe. This longitudinal gradient is less marked within the alpine domain. The results are discussed in terms of glacial and postglacial history of Picea ables in Europe. At the natural French area level, located at the western Emit of natura! area, the provenances of southern Alps have been clearly differentiated from the others involving the probable participation of addition,al glacial refuge(s) located in the south of Europe. In addition, we have observed a strong similary between the Jura and north Alps provenances. The Vosges provenances appear fairly heterogeneous. The Vosges and others French populations anaiyses have shown that the diversity indices estimated within Vosges isolated populations did not vary substantially.
