Quantification de l'activité physique passée : mesure et rôle pronostique sur l'état de santé (masse osseuse et fonction musculaire)

Abstract : Physical activity assessment is essential to study the role of physical activity and its conditions of practice in the human aging process. A review of the literature shows that most of the questionnaires available are elaborated in english. Numerous questionnaires are designed to assess physical activity during short period of time but fewer are conceived to assess lifetime physical activity. Then, we have adapted to french an american questionnaire designed to assess habituaI physical activity during the last 12 months. We have also developed a new computer-assisted tool to assess physical activity over the whole life (Quantap). Application of the Quantap system to health, particularly bone mass and muscle strength, allow to study the prognosis role of physical activity. Sport practice during youth is associated with higher bone mineraI density at lumbar spine whereas femoral neck bone density seems to be influenced by sport during recent period. A higher muscle strengh is observed in subjects reporting lifetime sport activity.
