L'échange des assistants de langue vivante entre la France et l'Allemagne avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale : les "directeurs de conversation" et la "langue de l'ennemi"

Abstract : The aim of this Ph D thesis is to understand how the exchange of foreign language assistants between France and Germany - one of the first exchange programmes framed by a convention between the two states, already in 1905 - could possibly be created and maintained during the first half of the twentieth century. This in spite of strong tensions between the two neighbour states as well as their armed conflicts. Considering these questions, our study seeks to reveal different political and educative factors, which contribute towards generating the exchange programme and keeping it alive. We particularly question its purpose and functions according to the viewpoints of assistants, teachers and institutions.
