Caractérisation de l'état de mélange de poudres : cas de mélanges faiblement dosés

Abstract : We have developed a methodology of dynamic sampling for obtaining a correct characterization of the state of mixing of a powder with respect to the scale of scrutiny. This is based on spreading the mixture along a conveyor belt thus giving a one dimensional selection procedure. In parallel, the determination of the auto-correlation coefficients together with a numerical modelling leads to an identification of the rnixture structure. The application and validation of the technique has allowed following the kinetics of mixing of high dilution powder mixtures in a hoop mixer. The influence of the major component has been quantified by using products in two different forms: spray dried lactose and ground lactose, with two different partiel sizes. This study allows identification of the different mixing mechanisms at play and also the practical limits of the type of mixer used with respect to the powder used. A heap test for segregation has been developed in a further study of the stability of the mixtures and shows the important role of the morphology of the major component in handling processes subsequent to mixing.
