Développement de nouveaux matériaux thermoélectriques avancés de structure skutterudite

Abstract : Skutterudite compounds has appeared as the most promising materials for thermoelectric applications at moderated temperatures. New compounds CaxCo4Sb12 and CaxCo4-yNiySb12 have been synthesized by metallurgical route and lead to homogenous compounds with a majority of the skutterudite phase up to 99 %. The limit solubility of calcium is equal to 0.2. The calcium ato, localised in the 12 coordinated voids has bigger ADP values compared to the values of other atoms. We have investigated the electrical properties (electrical resistivity. Seebeck coefficient, Hall effect) and the thermal properties (thermal conductivity) in the temperature range of 4 to 800 K. We have shown the positive influence of the insertion of calcium and nickel in our compounds. We have completed this study with band structure calculations and magnetic measurement. We were allowed to identify the compounds Ca0,18Co3,97Ni0,03Sb12 has one of the best n-type skutterudite material at 800 K measured so far.
