Etude théorique des processus ionisants induits par impact d'ions sur des molécules d'intérêt biologique : application au développement d'une simulation Monte Carlo de suivi de protons dans la matière biologique

Abstract : The understanding of the effects of charged particles, including ions, in biological matter is a major challenge for the scientific community. Whether a therapeutic standpoint (for radiotherapy) or preventive (measure of risk to persons subjected to radiation: astronauts in space ...) it is now essential to describe with finesse all the ionizing processes involved in slowing down of charged particles in living matter. Thus, Dr. Robert Wilson was the first, in 1946, to have shown the positive effects of proton radiation therapy and their potential therapeutic. Since then, the light ions like protons or carbon ions, are used in therapeutic approaches such as anticancer treatments.In this work, We develop a Monte Carlo simulation to model the transport and effects of ions in biological material. Beforehand, we present a detailed work on the interactions induced by multicharged ions on the biological environment to compile the data (in terms of probabilities of interaction cross sections named) essential to any simulation Monte Carlo. In our work, the biological environment is represented partly by water vapor and also by DNA. We study the effects induced by the passage of protons in water and in DNA, which is an original and new transport of charged particles in matter, in particular assessing the influence of the representation of the biological and interaction models that we use in our simulation.
