Contribution à l'étude d'un bassin évaporitique triasique. Les marnes à anhydrite (marnes irisées inférieures) de Lorraine

Abstract : In the Lorraine area, the "Marnes à anhydrite" overlie the keuperian salt deposit of Lorraine - Champagne (NE France). Several drillings allowed the detailed study of this argillaceous-carbonated-sulfated formation (around 40 m thick): mineralogy, petrography, diagenesis, chemical composition and lithological facies associations. According to these results and bibliographical data, the "Marnes à anhydrite" were deposited on marginal mudflats bordering a salt pan which progressively shifted from the Lorraine to the Champagne area. The sedimentary column is made of superposed deposits of about thirty sebkha sequences, each of them showing the evolution from a subaqueous to an emerged environment. This model of very discontinuous sedimentation is known in the German Gipskeuper with similar facies. It occurs in the salt deposit of Lorraine: the lithology is different but also characteristic of the same recurrent immersion - emersion cycles
