Effet des essences forestières sur le fonctionnement organo-minéral d'un sol acide: observations et modélisations

Abstract : This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of a shift in the tree species, which occurred 30 year-ago, on the organo-mineral functioning of an acid soil (Breuil, Nièvre). A plot of native forest was used for comparison purposes. My works focused on two planted species of contrasted nature; beech and Douglas fir (coniferous). I studied soil samples and soil solutions collected at different soil depths and matrix potentials, and I performed a number of chemical analyses for total chemistry, pH, aqueous and solid phase speciation. A part of the measurements was used to simulate metal binding to humic substances (model Wham) from which additional variables were obtained. A sound statistical analysis pointed a range of effects of the tree species, sometimes very drastic. I have been able to identify the main processes/mechanisms controlling the chemical composition of soil solutions as well as the solid phase speciation. The intensity of the effects varies with the planted species and the soil depth. Particularly, this work has showed us that most processes were dominantly controlled by proton cycling in the two planted soils, while the role of the organic ligands was dominant in the native forest.
