De la violence carcérale : sources, perceptions et modes d'expression

Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the different stages giving rise to and participating in violence in jails. This from of violence is heterogeneous : the prison is a structurally conflictual world in which the method of organisation breeds violence which can be organisational, institutional, symbolic (diciplinary commission) and which recoils on the prisoners and their families, as well as on the staff members. But this violence is also interpersonnal, individual (violence aimed et oneself) and collective (mutiny). Finally, the study of the prisoners and of the guards has allowed to understand the different social representations of violence in jails : violence of the system, of prisoners against prisoners, of prisoners against guards against prisoners.
