Les méandres encaissés dans les plateaux calcaires de la France de l'Est

Abstract : This study investigates morphostructural requirements of incised meanders genesis and their evolution. Only incised meanders in which meander amplitude is at least equal or greater than half a meander wavelength are considered. Incised meanders are preferably located in easily cryoclasted limestone plateau with a bedrock dip value greater than fifteen per thousand. Rivers have incised meanders in quaternary uplift areas where bedrock heterogeneity has prevented rivers to reach their equilibrium profile only with vertical incision. Incised meanders bends in limestone on clay are eroded in the other way round dip direction. In easy cryoclasted limestones, incised meander bends are eroded either in the dip direction other perpendicularly. Incised meanders size is connected with stream-morphogenic potential. in homogeneous climatic environment of limestone plateau of eastern France, amender amplitude increases with the square root of the average annual discharge. About fifteen meanders out of two hundreds and eleven do not verify this relation: air-bar valley meanders, Liverdun meanders on the Moselle and the great meanders on Meuse below Meuse-Aroffe confluence. These observations authorize to reconstitute quaternary eastern Parisian basin network evolution.
