L'image de l'Extrême-Orient dans l'œuvre de Pierre Loti

Abstract : Pierre Loti has approached and described on many countries in the world. Particularly, China, Korea and Japan as far as the Far East are concerned. The documentary value of this writer's texts confirmed by external elements is outstanding. Loti’s regard, emotive and response towards these three countries he perceives and judges are often surprising and unexpected to the reader. His natural and human frameworks with the people who animate and particularize it, his forceful cultural and aesthetic potentialities are the two modes of a contrastive, ambivalent experience dominated by excess, hypertrophic impressions. This division of the image brings the following truth to light. Loti is keen on working on the more superficial, anecdotic details of the everyday life to accede to the universal and to the confirmation of his inner philosophy on things and beings.
