Métamémoire, mémoire et vieillissement

Abstract : The author reviews the literature concerning age differences in memory, metamemory and in metamemory-memory relationships in adulthood. it would appear that age differences emerge in certain aspects of memory and of metamemory knowledge. Some dimensions of metamemory knowledge predict memory performances in the aged. The implication of this knowledge in memory aging is not clearly demonstrated. Methodological and theoretical problems relating to the metamemory concept are outlined. Following this, the author attempts to demonstrate, thanks to a memory experiment, that metamemory knowledge influences the memory of the aged. Implications of the results for memory aging research are discussed.
