Etude de l'adsorption sur les tamis moléculaires (Thèse de Docteur-Ingénieur)

Abstract : This work made it possible to establish or corroborate the particular characteristics of the adsorption of straight-chain aliphatic organic molecules by type 5A molecular sieves. The quantities adsorbed at saturation cannot be predicted by simply considering the pore volume and the volume of the adsorbate in the liquid state. Experiments are necessary to know the sorbent quantity as the length of the molecules increases. The penetration kinetics, in contact with a liquid phase, is the same as that of the same species in the gas phase. Intramolecular diffusion coefficients are in the order of 10(-6) cm2.s-1, but decrease as the length of the molecules increases. The application of a model where the global kinetics of molecule fixation is predominant (competition between internal and external diffusions) made it possible to quantitatively predict the elution curves at the outlet of the adsorption columns (diameter 25 mm; height 150 cm).
