« Une nouvelle hypothèse sur les deux recensions des Synonyma d’Isidore de Séville : quelques remarques critiques »

Abstract : Answer to José Carlos Martín, review of : Isidori Hispalensis episcopi Synonyma, ed. J. Elfassi, Turnhout, 2009 (CCSL, 111B), Archivum Latinitatis Medii Aevi, 68, 2010, p. 368-371, who suggests a different interpretation of the relation between both recensions of the Synonyma : anteriority of Λ, of which Φ would be a version corrected by Isidore. The argumentation rests on the nature of the variants (of author according to JCM, of copyist according to JE), their value (opposition between classical [Λ] and no classical [Φ] by JCM, which is contested by JE), their systematicity and quality (what JCM describes as “corrections” of Φ is believed by JE to be limited and incoherent), and the connection with the sources (to which, in JE’s opinion, Φ is sometimes closer than Λ).
