Les recommandations AFSSAPS de 2005 n'ont pas modifié la prise en charge de la fièvre de l'enfant par les parents

Abstract : Introduction : Fever in children is frequent. Often mild, the first coverage (ou initial coverage ?) is the parent's responsibility : medicinal treatments and motives for medical consultations. Unfortunately, parental efficiency is poor. Therefore, in 2005, the AFSSAPS updated its recommendations. This study rates, six years after their publishing, their impact by describing and comparing parent's knowledge and behaviour towards fever in children.Material and method : This survey was established among families whose children were attending pre-school in and near Metz (France) in 2006 and 2012. The same questionnaire was given in order to assess the knowledge, the coverage and the symptoms of serious fever. The results were read according to the family's number of children and socio-professional category. Results : In 2006, 1038 questionnaires were handed out and 1273 in 2012. The fever's threshold is not better known nowadays. Bathing and baring children remain the predominant physical methods. The treatment is based on the use of ibuprofen and the practice of therapeutic alternating. However, the conditions of administering medication are well mastered. Causes and motives for consultation are not better apprehended in 2012 though. The main sources of information are physicians.Discussion : The message which has been spread since 2005 is not efficient. Its complexity has not overwhelmed old beliefs and inappropriate parental practices. A campaign based on a brief, simple message has to be organised, which will have more chances to be integrated by the public. Medical practices have to be harmonised
