Evaluation d'une réunion d'information des internes de médecine générale lorrains sur le SASPAS (stage autonome en soins primaires ambulatoire supervisé)

Abstract : The Autonomous Training Course in Supervised Ambulatory Primary Care ("SASPAS ") was created in order to increase the ambulatory training time (patie nt consultation) during the third cycle of general medical studies . By2008, prior experience had shown that this training cours e attracted few students in Lorraine. On the other hand , most of the students who did partake in the course were generally satisfied with it. The assumption that thisdisinterest came from an ignorance of its objectives led to the organisation of a briefing session on the trainingcourse for the Lorraine medical students. The briefing session took the form of the presentation of a slide show, followed by an open discussion with course supervisors , general practitioners and medical students having alreadycompleted the course . Its impact was evaluated by means of questionnaires at the beginning and the end of themeeting. The 42 student s (22% of those att ending) having taken part in the meeting ail answered thequestionnaires. The results identified that the vision and objectives of SASPAS were already positive for 71% of the stude nts before the meeting. By the end of the meeting, ail those who hadn 't previously made up their mindsalso had a favourable opinion of it (however those who already had a definite project did not modify it as a result). After the meeting, most of the students claimed to have a better knowledge of the practical methods of the SASPAS, while being already convinced of its educational merits. All the students found the meeting useful, butsometimes too long. The relatively low number of participants in this study limits the usefulness of the informationderived from it. However , it underlined the potential interest of the students in SASPAS, as well as their natural motivation to partake in projects corresponding to their own personal needs. Therefore, there appears to be a clearjustification towards holding such a meeting every year. This work has been supplemented by an investigation inthe various medical colleges to evaluate the current organisation of SASPAS. The two obstacles with the development of the SASPAS, are ( 1) the recruitment of new training supervisors to oversee the students and (2) theongoing financing of these training courses . It is advisable to address these concerns within the framework ofprofessional medical training.
