Le Flow chez les joueuses de football espoirs: autodétermination et estime de soi

Abstract : This study which is in the field of positive psychology, aims to explore the relationship between the optimal psychological state called flow, self-determination and self-esteem of the hopes women soccer players (n=19). To do this, the study is focused on an “inter-pôles” meeting, which helped to condition the reaching attainment of flow by controlling the level of opponents and the challeng. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to complement qualitatively the data obtained through the IF- FSS2 (measurement of flow), the RSES (measurement of self-esteem ) and EMS (measurement of motivation ).The results showed a significant positive correlation between intrinsic motivation to knowledge and the concentration dimension of the flow, and a negative correlation between the identified extrinsic motivation and the action awareness merging consciousness dimension. Because of total scores showing no correlations, the assumptions have not been validated but the interviews indicate that the best performances are associated with a high level of self-esteem, also these interviews report that the motivation of young players is guided by the need of social recognition of their specific capabilities. All of these data are questioning the interpretation and description of the state of flow of high performance athletes: hedonism or eudonism ?
