Impact evaluation report of 2009-2011. Congenital Differences's communication activities regarding the Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of the Women of Reproductive Age of Thua Thien Hue province (Handicap International Vietnam)

Abstract : The CD project is operating in the province of Thua Thien Hue since 2008, addressing the prevailing issues on the prevention and early detection of congenital differences for children by means of communication activities on early detection and preventive measures such as the taking of folic acid, rubella vaccination directed at the community. The project has commissioned an impact evaluation of the latter with focus on knowledge, attitudes and practices of the women in the project population that are of reproductive age. The conclusions of this evaluation offer a vital contribution to elaborate recommendations aligned with an appropriate strategy for the duplication and capitalization of the project. The data has been collected via literature review, quantitative research (KAP survey) as well as qualitative research (ie, group discussions with the women, semi-structured interviews with the key health staff). The outcomes are quite diverse: the creation of awareness for early detection and the taking of the folic acids have proved satisfying whereas the vaccination level against rubella is still quite low. It turns out that it is ncessary to continue the village meetings which are largely welcomed, while focusing even more on the content, the organization and the provision of medicine and promotion for vaccination.
