Dendrochimie et phyto-screening : Application dans la détection des pollutions aux métaux

Abstract : Environmental forensics consists in conducting expertise in order to solve conflicts related to liabilities after a case of pollution. Dendrochemistry and phytoscreening are two disciplines which can be used for this purpose. Throughout this study, which fits into the PIT framework, we focused our attention on two specific sites, concerning pollutions related to metals. Lambiotteis a factory specialized in the carbonization of wood where three trees are sampled for dendrochemistry analysis and twenty-three for photoscreening analysis. MetalEurope's lead and Umicore's zinc foundries, five trees whose 3 plane trees are exposed to pollution and two to be monitored: one plane tree and one poplar are used for dendrochemistry analysis, thirty-six for phytoscreening. The dendrochemistry analysis are made in Sweden, using the line scanning technique of X-Ray fluorescence and the phytoscreening samples are analyzed in the USA using ICP-MS. The dendrochemistry results of MEu/Umi show that the averages of concentration are generally higher in the monitored poplar tree sample. Pb, Zr, Al, Ni, Cu, As, and Hg do not present exploitable variation. Mn, Ti, and V fluctuate in a similar way through time. For Fe, the variations are similar for the carrots of trees 1, 2 and poplar, they are similar for the tree 3 and the plane tree control. As for Zn, only the core of tree 2 show two peaks of concentration. However, the poplar shows variation though time. These results can be explained by the species, by the solubility of the ions located in the ground and the mobility of these elements in the sapwood towards heartwood.
