Liens existant entre les troubles dyslexiques développementaux et les troubles du traitement auditif : étude transversale comparée des résultats obtenus au Bilan Auditif Central entre une population d’enfants porteurs de troubles dyslexiques et une population d’enfants témoin

Abstract : The central auditory system is a set of anatomical structures involved in the processing of information received by the peripheral auditory system. Thecentral auditory system has numerous features that allow the processing of localization and lateralization of sound, of phonemic discrimination, of aspects of sound memory and of binaural unmasking. The central auditory system and its dysfunctions, called "auditory processing disorders", (APDs) are often grey areas for speech-therapists. Nevertheless, in many research literatures, authors are suggesting the existence of links between auditory processing disorders and the so-called "Dys-" disorders. In this study, we research possible links between APDs and dyslexia by comparing evaluations between the central auditory systems of children suffering from dyslexia with those of a normal control group. We use some tests of the Bilan Auditif Central (BAC) consisting of a list from Lafon, a dichotic listening test and a test of duration and pitch pattern recognition. Ten children, aged from eight years, six months to eleven years, one month took part in this study (five children with dyslexia and five control children). The results for each test of the BAC were found to be worse in the group of children with dyslexia than in the control group. However the results of children with dyslexia are not pathological. Therefore, we can not validate our general hypothesis linking dyslexia and auditory processing disorders because of, among other things, the small number of children included in our study. However, this study reveals diminished levels of ability in certain features of the central auditory system as assessed by the BAC’s test. This study also revealed that these diminished levels of ability coultherefore impact the oral language skills and their acquisitions, often deficient with dyslexics
