Rate of Access to the Binding Sites in Organically Modified Silicates. 3. Effect of Structure and Density of Functional Groups in Mesoporous Solids Obtained by the Co-Condensation Route

Abstract : The structure of thiol-functionalized silica-based organic−inorganic hybrids obtained by the co-condensation route in the presence of a surfactant template and the density of the organic groups are two critical parameters that strongly affect the accessibility of the binding sites to metal species as HgII, as well as the mass-transfer rates of the sorption process.
