Electrochemistry with Mesoporous Silica: Selective Mercury(II) Binding

Résumé

The adsorption properties of mesoporous materials belonging to the MCM-41 family can be advantageously coupled to a selected electron-transfer reaction after their incorporation into a conductive composite matrix. This has been demonstrated via the voltammetric monitoring of the selective mercury(II) binding to pure silica MCM-41. The intrinsically simple methodology could be useful to the rapid characterization of the binding properties of other ordered mesoporous solids.
